The Short Vowels - Book 1 

Kid's absolutely love the pulls and booklets.  Book 1 teaches rhyming and the easier patterned endings: an, et, id, op, ug. The first half of the book is filled with full page pull through cartoons for all the short vowel patterned endings.  The second half of the book is filled with the skinny books.  Each day kids can take both a Pull Through and a Skinny Book home to practice. Develops their fine motor skills like colouring and cutting,too!

Skills taught:

1. My Cute Little Pull Throughs teach:
  •  consonants and short vowels,
  •  easier endings like: an, ed, it, op, um,
  •  consonant blends and digraphs,
  •  decoding words with patterned endings.

2. My Skinny Sentence Books teach:
  •  consonants and short vowels,
  •  consonant blends and digraphs,
  •  progressively harder sight word vocabulary,
  •  sequencing the pages,
  •  oral reading and decoding practice, 
  •  putting skills into context.


Formats used:

1. My Cute Little Pull Throughs are colouring book-style pictures with sound strips that the students colour, cut and pull through to read. As the student pulls the strip through the words appear one at a time to read. As the consonants change the students practice their letter sounds and blending. Colouring and cutting practice is built into the cute, fun format.

2. My Skinny Sentence Books are strip books that the students cut, staple and flip to read. Both the phonogram and the sight words are patterned so repetition helps the students review consonants, short vowels and learn sight word vocabulary. They practice oral reading with the words in context. Even Grade Ones have no trouble making them!

Students learn a lot and have fun, too!
