The Short Vowels - Book 3

The first part of the book has rhyming games for 3 letter short vowel words.  Kids love the really cute cartoons!  The second part of the book teaches all the phonemes from books 1 and 2 but in a patterned sentence format for grade 2-4 students who can now print. The book patterns the phonemes and sight words so students can practice oral reading in context.  Students also practice correct printing, punctuation and capitalization. The students love these read-copy-read booklets with their cute illustrations and rewarding tasks.

Skills taught:

1. My Cute Little Rhyme Games teach:
  •  consonants,
  •  short vowels,
  •  rhyming,
  •  decoding and blending.

2. My Sight Word Pattern Books teach:
  •  consonants and short vowels,
  •  progressively more difficult sight word vocabulary,
  •  oral reading and decoding practice,
  •  reading skills into context,
  •  practice printing, using capitals and correct punctuation.

Formats used:

1. My Cute Little Rhyme Games match up pairs of rhyming words. The words are presented on two different cartoons. As the student pairs up the words, the pictures pair up also. This multi-sensory approach to learning new words helps reinforce the sounds.

2. My Sight Word Pattern Books are booklets that the teacher photocopies for the student. The phonograms at the top and the sight words below are patterned in sentences. The repetition helps the student learn both their sounds and the new sight word vocabulary. They practice oral reading with the words in context.

Students learn a lot and have fun, too!
